ROOT CANAL

Root canal therapy is one of the most common dental procedures performed. This treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges. At the center of your tooth is a collection of nerves and blood vessels called the pulp. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms may include prolonged temperature sensitivity, pain when biting, spontaneous tooth pain, swelling, or tenderness of the surrounding gums, although some teeth requiring root canal treatment have few or no symptoms. If you experience any of these symptoms, we will evaluate and consider root canal therapy to eliminate the diseased pulp. During a root canal, this injured pulp is removed, and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Depending on the tooth, the doctor may choose to refer you to a specialist we work with (an endodontist) to ensure the process goes as quickly and predictably as possible.
